As part of the continued celebrations of 10 years of working with Older Adults, The Rotherhithe Shed opened an exhibition at Southwark Park Galleries in the Salter Gallery to showcase some of the work throughout the years.
celerating ten years of bubble theatre's older adults programme
The Shed is open twice a week we welcome in a vibrant community of makers and menders to collaborate, share skills, connect and work on their creative projects in our well equipped workshop. The ‘shed at the bottom of the garden’ that many people in our local community dream of having, The Rotherhithe Shed began as the Australian Men’s Shed movement was evolving into a global mission for men to come together and create as a means of reducing social isolation after retirement.
Learning and using the skills to make, mend and repair is a radical solution to the age of waste we find ourselves in and we have a lot to learn from The Rotherhithe Shed artists. We are continually surprised by the innovative projects they have brought into being.
shed pop up workshops
As part of the exhibition, we hosted Pop Up Shed sessions, led by ‘Sheddists’ and open to the public at the gallery. This gave the general public an opportunity to meet the artists and see their work in action.

"Reg retired and just lost himself. He didn’t move off the sofa most days. Once he found the Shed, it was like he had a new lease on life – it gave him purpose again. It was so good to see him get that back."
