Get Started With Theatre

Get Started With Theatre

Get Started With Theatre is a hands-on programme designed to introduce young people aged 16-24 to the theatre industry while supporting them in creating and performing their own production.

The Process

Participants will work closely with our practitioners, engaging in a range of creative activities that develop their knowledge of the theatre sector, developing their communication and team-working skills to support the young people’s confidence and self-esteem. During the course, young people also take part in technical workshops with industry professionals to gain insights and understanding of the artist’s professional journey.

Recently we have hosted workshops with:

This experience demonstrates the diverse career opportunities available in the theatre sector.

As part of the programme, the group also enjoy a guided trip a live theatre show, to break down the barriers that exist for individuals with limited access to the arts and encouraging them to see the arts as accessible for all.

Towards the end of the programme young people will work with our experienced staff to devise a play about the issues that matter most to them, performing it to friends and family on their last day.

Outcomes

Over the course of the programme, we see the growth in confidence, knowledge and skills in the young people. They know why they are taking part in the programme and know what they want to take away from it.

“What stood out to me was the growth and confidence of the young people during the performance in just one week!”

Once completed the programme, the young people recieve a Bronze Arts award in acknowledgement of their achievements throughout the programme. Some of the young people who have taken part in the programme have gone onto take part in our other activities for young people such as Young Theatre Makers.
