During our interviews we have been told of the music listened to while at work on the wireless, during factory dances and at home after work. The relationship between work and music sparked our interest and we wanted to know more. On the 14th December we invited our story tellers and volunteers to; Workers Playtime. A workshop filled with a quiz, sharing of memories and cake.
John told us when he hears the song “sitting on the dock of the bay” he is reminded of a summer working on the docks. At lunch John and his friend would sit on a warehouse roof eating their sandwiches watching the river. Betty told us of listening to Blue Berry hill while working in a pen factory and Irene told us of dances held at Peak Freans by the company.
Worker’s playtime is one of three workshops we have planned to use our senses to stimulate memory enriching our research and its process. To read what Jody (a story gatherer) thought of the event follow the link to her blog entry. https://www.londonbubble.org.uk/blogpost/2012-12-worker-s-playtime-and-much/
