Occupying spaces took place across our summer term in 2010, culminating in two performances in July.
It was an experiment set up to consider how Bubble performers might best use outdoor spaces to make theatre. Questioning the need for words and even stories. The central issue was what can be communicated when human bodies use rhythm, energy and physicality to divide and focus public spaces.
All of Bubble’s weekly theatre groups were set the same challenge: To find an outdoor space (or spaces) local to where their group met and to develop a piece of theatre created especially for that space.
7 of our groups took part, from our 6-8 year olds to our adult class and performed across two weekends in Rotherhithe and Forest Hill. Each group led the audience on a unique journey, discovering theatre in outdoor spaces.
Below are photos and a short report about the project.
