In 20/30 years will you remember how to use excel, fix a car and send an email? We asked our story tellers can you remember the movements and skills required to get the job done.
After a lot of ums and ahhs and I don’t knows five of our story tellers lead our If a job’s worth doing workshop with demonstrations.
Sylvie taught us how to pick up a row biscuits (and put them in a box without breaking them); a skill she learnt working at Peak Freans. Dorothy showed us how to change the ribbon on a manual typewriter and David explained the process of making handmade shoes; skills he used working at Masters.
Those who attended the workshop were invited to; learn how to pick up a row of biscuits, to feel the weight of tools and how to hold them correctly. Although they tried, biscuits were broken, tools were held incorrectly and far too much energy was used trying to get it right.
Our task now is to curate a performance from the stories told to us and the movements we have been shown.
