In an average week around 120 people make theatre with London Bubble.
They meet us in their school, in sheltered accommodation, in community venues, in the youth justice service and at our home hub in Rotherhithe. In small groups, they make theatre together about the stories and themes that matter most to them, alongside specialist theatre artists.
The theatre they make is fleeting, often beautiful, funny and moving but rarely seen by anyone that’s not in the room at the time. We value it equally wherever it takes place and however many (or few) people get to experience it.
It matters because these are stories that might not otherwise be told, by people who might not otherwise feel that their voice gets heard. Through taking part with Bubble, they come to realise that there are people who value their opinions and offer unconditional positive regard. We recognise them.
When so much of the work you do is less visible to the public, as ours is, it matters all the more to be recognised ourselves. To be awarded Best Charity by Southwark Business Awards is a highlight of our 50th year. It means that, just as the way we make theatre recognises the lesser heard stories of children, young people and older adults, the story of London Bubble is being recognised too.
Thank you to the organisers, the judging panel and everyone who made the awards possible. This means the world to us. Thank you to our members, to our staff and freelance team, our supporters and friends, without you we wouldn’t be here in our 50th year, let alone winning an award.
